Carpet

Carpet is made using one of two processes - weaving or tufting. Different processes are used to prepare the fibre for the pile, and for applying colour, design and texture in the manufacturing process.

Axminter and Wilton are woven carpets. The pile and backing of these are made at the same time, whereas for tufted carpets yarn is fed into a primary backing, an adhesive is applied to hold the tufts in position and a secondary backing is then added to give the carpet stability.
